Summer Lovin' Happened So Fast

It's summer so love is in the air! At least that is what I have been told.  I routinely receive phone calls from my friends fretting over what to wear on a first date or any date for that matter. So, being the one and only single Magnolia, I have learned a few tricks thanks to my serial dating tendencies.

Guys do not keep up with the latest trends. In fact, they usually do not even understand half the trends. So, when it comes to picking out a date night outfit, it is better to pick flattering over trendy.

Here are a few of my suggestions:

Skinny Jeans

I love collaboration for a few reasons. To start with its comfortable. When you are nervous about a date, the last thing you need to have to worry about is your outfit.  Also, I live by the rule: If your jeans are form fitting, the top should be loose. Every outfit should have a balance to keep it as flattering as possible. This outfit is simple, classy, and functional.

If skinny jeans are not your forte, I suggest a pair of dark wash, flared jeans. I own a pair of wide leg jeans and I have to admit they are the most flattering pair I own. Just do the opposite of skinny jeans and choose a fitted top or a top that shows off your shoulders, collar bone, and/or back like a spaghetti strap or razor back. I suggest going with a light pastel, it will pop next to the dark jeans while give you a very feminine, romantic look.

Both of these looks are great for when you have no clue what your date has in mind for the night. You will be dressed up just enough for any venue.

If you are like me, then your go to outfit is always a dress. When wearing a dress on a date, it is important to keep an appropriate length and to make sure you are comfortable in the dress, not having to constantly adjust. Most of all, make sure you know how to act like a lady in your dress.

For the summer, I suggest picking a solid or at least mostly solid dress. Brights are great, but if you want to keep the romantic look stay with lace and pastels . It just depends on your personality. Cut out dress are taking center stage right now. I love them! To keep it classy, just practice balance. For example, if the back is cut out, the front should not be a deep v-neck and vice-versa.  With that said, be sure to have the right bra and panties for whatever style you choose. Bra straps are NEVER an accessory. If you need any advice, please refer to my eariler post!

To spice up a solid dress, just add a statement necklace, but keep the rest of the jewelry to a minimum. You do not want to sound like a change machine.

As for shoes, I have one word of advice: WEDGES!  They look great with every outfit you've seen here! They are the most fail safe option for footwear. A general rule: the shorter the dress the lower the heel of a shoe. You're on a date, not going out dancing at the club.

At the end of all your fretting, it mostly comes down to how you feel in your outfit. You should feel pretty, confident, and comfortable.
